Supervision of PhD Studentsships partly takes place in a team of supervisors, in particular at Reading University. Also, it is usually expected that the first official supervisor is working at the University, where the PhD student carries out the defense. The classical concept of "doctor father or mother" is sometimes difficult to pin down to one person, there might be several such fathers or mothers. In our department at DWD we have many researchers working on postdoc type positions (currently more than 50), not listed here. | Supervision of PhD studentships often takes place within a team of supervisors, particularly at Reading University and Imperial College, where I have been heavily involved. It is usually expected that the first official supervisor is employed at the university where the PhD student will defend their thesis.
